Osoyoos Gelato is owned
and managed by Robert Klei.
Robert and wife Gwen moved to
Osoyoos
in 1999, after they sold their successful little flower business in
Calgary, The Flower Cottage, which they had started nearly 15 years
earlier. With a Master's degree in
Environmental Biology, Rob found flowers and plants an interesting
outlet for his artistic and scientific bent!
Upon settling in Osoyoos, Robert accepted a job at a local winery, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards, which stretched into a variety of activities. He enjoyed that pleasant work environment for nearly six years.
However, by February 2006, Robert decided it was time to pursue a long-held dream of running his own gelato business. In preparation he took the highly acclaimed Ice Cream Technology Course offered at University of Guelph, Ontario, and investigated various aspects of the gelato industry in Toronto and Vancouver. He decided that the popular residential and tourist area of the Southern Okanagan Valley, and specifically Osoyoos, BC, would be a viable location to begin introducing this new product to the southern interior of British Columbia.
